What is Hail Damage?
Hail can damage your roofing, siding and gutters, causing rapid deterioration of your home’s exterior and sometimes causing leaks years after impact. When the hail stone hits your shingle it causes a soft spot where the outer layer of granules will be very loose.
Over time, the granules in these damaged spots will fall out. Water finds its way through the damaged shingles to reach the fractured decking. The water then absorbs into the structure of the roof like a sponge and deteriorates the integrity of the roof. This process sometimes takes months or even years for the homeowner to discover, and by then it is too late! Most insurance companies require that a claim must be made within the first 6 to 12 months of the initial damage. American Eagle Remodeling's hail restorationion specialists in the Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia area are ready to assist you with the repair or replacement of your roof, siding or gutters.
What to Do After a Hailstorm?
1. Home Inspection. Get a qualified inspection and consultation prior to your adjuster meeting. Selecting a contractor to assist you in meeting with the adjuster will greatly enhance a complete Scope of Loss as identified by the insurance adjuster. At American Eagle Remodeling, we act as your construction and insurance expert in negotiations with your insurance company.
3. Filing the claim. If we discover damage following our on-site inspection we will recommend you call in a claim. Just call your insurance company or file a claim online, requesting a claim for hail or storm damage. They will then ask for all the pertinent dates and data from you.
4. Get your claim number and make an appointment with the adjuster.
5. Call American Eagle Remodeling with date and time of adjusters appointment, so we can meet the adjuster at your home.
6. The adjuster meeting. We strongly advise that American Eagle Remodeling be present to represent your interests when the insurance adjuster comes to your home to inspect for damage.
We know what it takes to complete the roofing project and will be sure the settlement includes everything you need to restore your home to pre-storm condition. When the adjuster is done, we will compare notes with the adjuster to ensure that there are no discrepancies on size or estimating materials, making the process clear and painless.
7. Insurance Settlement. In the most likely scenario where the insurance company approves your claim we will present our estimate using the same estimating software and pricing that most major insurance companies use. We will be your advocate to insure the settlement is adequate to cover all the damage. It is important to note that the initial settlement may not be the final approved by the insurance company. A Supplemental adjustment can be filed if additional damage is discovered. This will increase your Scope of Loss and the amount of monies approved for repairs.
8. Insurance company pays the damage minus the deductible and depreciation.
9. American Eagle Remodeling constructs new roof, siding or gutters.
10. American Eagle Remodeling sends an invoice to your insurance company.
11. Insurance company pays the remaining held back depreciation based on paid construction invoice.
